Alan Watts on The Most Fundamental Human Desire | To Love and Be Loved By midlife, many discover that love is not the fairytale they once believed. This video reveals a truth that shakes the foundations of our longing: the greatest human desire is not to be loved, but to love freely, without bargain or demand. In this talk, he strips away the illusions, exposing why so much of what we call “love” is merely a transaction in disguise, and how true connection can only flow from a heart already whole. It is a challenge to see yourself honestly, to stop begging for love, and to begin living from the abundance already within you. If this struck a chord, share it with someone who still believes love must be earned. What’s your own experience of love’s illusions? Tell your story in the comments 👇👇👇 #Alanwatts #love #fundamental #alanwattsinspired #alanwattsinspires #philosophyforlife #selfgrowth #desire 🤍 Inspiration from: Alan Watts This content is shaped in the spirit of Alan Watts — not to teach in the traditional sense, but to awaken something you already know deep down. Rooted in his explorations of consciousness, illusion, and the eternal now, our aim is to offer perspectives that dissolve the false walls between self and world. Rather than lead you to conclusions, we invite you to see that you were never truly separate from the dance of life, that what you seek is already what you are. Alan often said the task is not to improve yourself, but to realize there’s no self to improve. And so, with that spirit, we share words that may feel less like instruction and more like waking from a dream. If, through this offering, you find yourself laughing at the seriousness of life, or suddenly aware of the great cosmic joke that you are the universe playing a game of hide and seek with itself, then we've done our job. About Alan: Alan Watts (1915–1973) was a British philosopher, speaker, and writer best known for translating Eastern philosophy into a language the modern Western mind could understand. With wit, wisdom, and a glass of whiskey in hand, he brought Zen, Taoism, and Vedanta to the kitchen table — showing us that life isn't a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced like music: playfully, reverently, and fully. Such a beautiful and wise message. Took me many decades to learn this lesson. But I’m so grateful I have. ✌️💖 Trust in yourself, embody love and it will find you.

Looking at the comments, I have never seen an Allan Watts talk that was so widely misunderstood. This applies to love and friendship. Once you realize that boundless reservoir within yourself, which has always been there, then love and friendship will naturally gravitate to you. You won't have to hope or desire to find it. It will find you. And you will have the keen awareness to know when that happens, and to know those who really and truly are just acting what they believe is love.

We have taken love as an exchange oh oh

@@HOOPLA372

Can I ask u guys this!

How many people here need a ‘healing’ or to be met with ‘understanding’ in a situation that caused conflict.

Is it possible to give that healing ❤️‍🩹 to ourselves . As often times the other refuses or doesn’t see a problem in the first place.

Why do we seek a healing from a person that hurt us in the first place?

I’m good with being by myself, and I don’t need or want someone else.

This is just incredible. And it flows so easily from his gifted tongue. He speaks truth.

@@u2havenosoul

The truth is few people would look back and think about the “love” they had😂because they are blindly heading towards the finish line and whatever works works. To them, whether you call it love or trade doesn’t matter. They get what they need (even if it’s exchanging benefits) that’s enough for them.

@@KenS-z5m

Its beautifully said ❤

@@HOOPLA372

It’s not about ‘ love’ it’s about people hurting you untill u just have to walk away … that’s where u meet yourself. It’s always like that. The one that loves/gives the most gets hurt the most.

*Enlightning passage :'' [...] not knowing they were never half a person to begin with''.* As it is an idea learned at a young age, that develops into a core belief, that is reinforced or not by experiences. I think of people from minorites, who have been taught that they are unlovable across lifespan, the ''work'' of learning to love oneself must be colossal and yet, even more important. Just sharing a thought.

@@ChrisAbikhalil

" Those who have nothing will seek from you which you have not given for yourself and you will mistake their hunger for love. "

Took me some time to understand this masterpiece

It's actually linked to you being connected to your depth, which is your divine nature or pure consciousness. Once you anchor yourself to that origin which is found through meditation and transcending everyday for a certain amount of time, then automatically your body and mind will have a feeling of contentment, you will feel like you have everything , you don't need anything from anyone or anything from the outside world ( validation or love that is seeked from other ) . Why ? Because the more you root yourself to your being , the more become love, you become it. And only then after you exube that light , then you actually love and give your partner without the need of them to fulfill something inside of you , because you are already fulfilled . Now imagine the sun, it doesn't tell the earth I owe you something, it just gives warmth and life with nothing in return. Now two hearts or two people who are in that state can make a lasting relationship, because it's built on rocks as Alan said and not on sand .

“The question is not how can I find
someone to love me, but the question is
how can I become someone who overflows?
For when love is no longer a plea but a
gift, when joy is no longer chained to
another's approval, you will see that to
love and be loved is not something to
chase. It is the way you already are.
You are not a half searching for the
other half. You are whole. And from that
wholeness, love flows, finding those who
recognize it instantly. Then love ceases
to be a hunt or a bargain or a desperate
keeping. It becomes the quiet, steady
light of the sun, needing nothing in
return, yet warming the whole sky” ♥️
