I rode on Amtrak with my 4 -year-old daughter. The employees ensured me that the ride was about 16 hours long but it turned out to be 36 hours. I had only brought enough food for 2 meals. I had no money. The passengers fed me and my daughter for the other 20 hours. Same daughter, in junior high, was stealing from me and selling my things at school. The school brought me in and asked me not to punish her. They then asked me if it was true that I had been going without food in order to take care of our family. I tried to deny it and then told them it wasn't a problem for me. They brought us food and then provided Christmas for our family of 5. Also, in Wisconsin, whenever I or anyone else slid off the icy roads, multiple people would stop and help and would not leave until the driver was back on the road. One long road trip, going through Kansas, my car broke down with me and my 2 little girls, on a highway around midnight. It was very dark and freezing and the traffic was going 70 mph on average, with a small shoulder off the side of the highway. The next exit was maybe 20 miles down the road. A couple took the next exit, went back the other way and took that exit and then came back and stopped to help. They had called for a tow truck and then gave us a ride, offering to allow us to stay the night in their home with them. In St.Louis, MO. a young man stopped to change my tire on the freeway. I told him it wasn't necessary since I'd called my insurance co. and then had called for a tow truck, which would arrive in an hour. He didn't think we were safe on the side of the freeway and so he changed my tire all by himself and refused payment. That same trip, a police officer pulled me over for having expired tags. We'd visited family in the south for Christmas and the car was packed to the brim with Christmas gifts. The officers took us to our apartment (can't drive on expired tags) and unloaded everything in that car. An elderly neighbor knew I was struggling and when she burned her back and shoulder falling asleep on a heating pad, she insisted on paying me an outrageous amount to apply her burn cream until she healed. While there are plenty of people who do not care and even plenty who enjoy the pain and suffering of others, there are a whole lot of people who are kind and generous. These are only a few of the times I have experienced kindness from complete strangers.

A random kid asked me for a dollar while I was waiting at a laundromat. I replied I only have a twenty. Confused he said that's okay and started walking away so I said ?I only have a twenty" while reaching. He exploded in emotion. Hope he does something good with it.
